Analyzing Police Patrol Routes with the Simulation of the Physical Reorganization of Agents

چکیده
In this article we describe a tool for assisting the investigation of different strategies of agent physical reorganizations. We show how the tool was used in the public safety domain for helping in the study of strategies of preventive policing. An agent society that simulates criminal and police behavior in a geographical region was constructed. In this society, artificial agents representing the police are the responsible to avoid crimes. The organizational structure of the police is characterized by the existence of a centralized command that has the task of distributing and redistributing the police force in a region according to an analysis on crime and the factors that influence it. The simulation of different strategies of physical reorganization makes it feasible to better understand the influence that different police patrol routes have on the reduction of crime rates.

Using Self-Organization in an Agent Framework to Model Criminal Activity in Response to Police Patrol Routes
The organizational structure of the police is characterized by the existence of a centralized command with the task of distributing and redistributing the police force in a region according to an analysis of crime and the factors that lead to it. On the other hand, criminals are characterized as a decentralized system in which individual agents have autonomy and act primarily based on accumulat...
متن کاملTowards Optimal Police Patrol Routes with Genetic Algorithms
It is quite consensual that police patrolling can be regarded as one of the best well-known practices for implementing public-safety preventive policies towards the combat of an assortment of urban crimes. However, the specification of successful police patrol routes is by no means a trivial task to pursue, mainly when one considers large demographic areas. In this work, we present the first re...

متن کاملPatrolling in a Stochastic Environment
The patrolling problem considered in this paper has the following characteristics: Patrol units conduct preventive patrolling and respond to call-for-service. The patrol locations (nodes) have different priorities, and varying incident rates. We design a patrolling scheme such that the locations are visited based on their importance and incident rates. The solution is accomplished in two steps....
متن کاملGAPatrol: An Evolutionary Multiagent Approach for the Automatic Definition of Hotspots and Patrol Routes
In this work, we present a novel evolutionary multiagent-based simulation tool, named as GAPatrol. Such system is devoted to the specification of effective police patrol route strategies for coping with criminal activities happening in a given artificial urban environment, which, in turn, mimics a real demographic region of interest. The approach underlying GAPatrol allows for the automatic unc...
